How to collect moss and keep it alive at home?
Moss – Collecting, Cleaning and Storing; Moss is an essential element in creating a beautiful and natural-looking terrarium. But, collecting moss can be a tricky task, and keeping it alive can be even more challenging. In this article, we will guide you on how to collect and keep moss at home.
The best time to collect moss is after a rainy day when it’s moist and easier to remove from the ground. You can find different types of moss, such as Little Shaggy-moss, Star Moss, Fern Moss, Plume Moss, and Pixie Cup Lichen – Genus Cladonia, in a shaded area.
To collect moss, place it in a container for transporting. Once you’ve gathered enough moss, it’s time to store it at home. For storage, you will need a transparent container with a lid, soil or orchid mix, and some dry leaves from the ground.

First, put two layers of soil in the container. If you plan to keep the moss for an extended period, put a layer of pebbles first. Next, add one layer of dry leaves. Now, it’s time to clean the moss.
Clean the moss gently, one by one, in filtered water, removing all branches and leaves. Place them in the container, and spray them well with filtered water. Repeat the steps for all moss.
Once you’ve collected and cleaned the moss, it’s time to keep it alive. To keep the moss healthy, spray it twice a week and place it in a bright but shaded area, away from direct sunlight.
Remember to collect moss with respect, take only what you need, and don’t harm the environment.
