Orchid Repotting & Propagation

Phalaenopsis baby orchid separation, and orchid repotting in a bigger pot

Dividing the orchid into two parts is a propagation method, which provokes new growth faster. The best time for separation is when the little orchid has at least 3 roots.

Please follow the steps for separating and repotting Phaleanopsis Orchid:

  • Gently remove the orchid from the old pot
  • Remove as much of the old potting mix as possible
  • Disinfect the scissors with alcohol or hydrogen
  • Cut off all rotten and dry roots
  • Leave the orchid in water for 15-20 minutes
  • Gently divide keiki from mother orchid (please watch video for steps)
  • The mother orchid is ready for repotting. Use one size bigger pot
  • Drill more drainage holes in the pot
  • Orchid mix for phalaenopsis
  • Hold the orchid with one hand and fill the potting mix into the pot with the other.
  • Occasionally tap it down with your fingers or with a stack.
  • Tap the pot on the side to help the mix settle
  • Leave the orchid in water for 15 min
  • Allow the orchid to drain completely
