Peace Lily Grow & Care

How to Grow and Care for Peace Lily Spathiphyllum

Spathiphyllum or better known as Peace Lily is one of the most common houseplants because it is very beautiful and easy to grow. Here’s everything you need to know about taking care of peace lilies in your home.

How to care for Peace Lily Spathiphyllum

Spathiphyllum is commonly grown as a potted plant in the United States, as most areas do not encourage outdoor plant cultivation. If you have the Spathiphyllum in the pot, you can take it out during the summer, but it’s a good idea to put it back in when the temperature drops. Spathiphyllum enjoys moderately moist soil and filtered sunlight with constant temperate conditions. These plants are free of most of the diseases and pests that can afflict foliage plants but can be susceptible to dandruff and scale insects. Spot treatment with garden oils is a good strategy for these pests.

Planting or Repotting Peace Lily

In our climate, this plant adapts well to the indoor life of our apartments and homes. It grows best when the ambient temperature is 20-22 ° C. Place in a medium pot and plant in a special indoor plant or potting mix. Spring may require replanting every 2-3 years, but if not replanted, regular topdressing should be used. It also needs to fully meet the nutritional needs of the plant. Finally, ideally, place the pot on a bed of clay marbles or small stones where water is often used. This evaporation of water helps the leaves feel as moist as the natural environment.

Watering Peace Lily Spathiphyllum

In spring and summer, It should be regular but modest. The plant does not need to drown, as the roots may not evaluate it. Water a lot, but drip water to dry, wait for the soil surface to dry, then water again. The leaves require ambient water and can be sprayed with soft water on a regular basis. Finally, apply liquid fertilizer every 2-3 weeks to increase flowering and ensure good plant growth. From autumn to winter, watering should be distributed slowly and the addition of fertilizers and organic matter should be suspended. The system is idle and must be left in place. From October to March, it is much more effective to place it in a cool room or on the north window sill.

Peace Lily Problems

Spathiphyllum can be a tropical plant, but it does not require the care of children’s gloves. On the other hand, the closer your cultural care is to the needs of the plant, the fewer problems you may encounter with Spathiphyllum. Spathiphyllum requires indirect light, not direct light. If you put your plant a few feet from the window, it should be okay. Another option is to place it near a fluorescent light. Enough light is important to prevent Spathiphyllum disease. These beautiful plants prefer damp places. They thrive in warm, damp conditions. Keeping the temperature at 1826 ° C will satisfy the Spathiphyllum and avoid problems with the Spathiphyllum. Raise the humidity for your peace lilies by placing the plants on a tray filled with pebbles and water. Watering too often can cause illness in the spathiphyllum. Wait until you see the plants wilt before adding more water.
